The Lusitania sank on the 7th May 1915. It set sail from New York on the 1st May heading to Liverpool. It got torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland and was completely under the sea within 18 minutes! 1198 were said to be on board, most of them were British but 128 Americans were on board too, all of which died. Only a couple of hundred survived. The Americans were so annoyed by what happened, they decided to join the war in 1918.

The Lusitania was meant to be the fastest passenger ship in the world. She maid her maiden voyage in 1907and set off on her journey in 1915. Winston Churchill was priminister at the time and there are rumours about how he wanted some kind of tragic event to happen so the Americans joined war. No-one really knows, it still remains as a mystery???
