To earn this badge, you need to show that you understand the role of school nurses. You will need to use your research and communication skills to gather information about school nurses, and then demonstrate your understanding of the role they play in schools and the importance of the work they do.
  1. Task 1 Who is your school nurse?

For this task, you need to identify your school nurse and create a story about them on Makewaves.

You might want to write an article about your school nurse, or you could make a video or audio recording about their job and what duties they carry out. Include tips on when your school nurse may be able to help you and how best to get in touch with your school nurse.

If possible, try to arrange an interview with your school nurse and ask them at least three questions about their role in school.

The audio file is a poem that is one School Nurse's story.

  2. Task 2 Visit your school nurse

Arrange an appointment with your school nurse or attend an assembly delivered by your school nurse and plan an interview with your school nurse.

This interview could be carried out as a group at a time when your school nurse is visiting the school.

After your appointment, write about your experience. Was it easy to arrange? How long did it last? What topics were covered during your appointment? What advice would you give to friends about how and when to contact your school nurse?

Upload your evidence for this task as a story on Makewaves. You might include a video of you talking about your school nurse visit.

If you would like to interview your school nurse about their role you may find these interview tips helpful.

  3. Task 3 Raise awareness about school nurses

Now that you have visited your school nurse, and learned about their role in school, this task requires you to create something that lets other people know about the services available to them from their school nurse.

You might want to create your own advert for school nurses using illustrations, or you could create a poem, a presentation in Powerpoint or Prezi. You could even film your own school nurses TV advert. Get creative!

The audio poem of Sophie's story 'Who else?' may help to inspire you.

If you want to take things further, why not run a workshop with younger students to help them find out about their school nurse? You could help them work towards their badge, too! Running this activity would enable you to earn your Health Champion badge.

Upload your work to Makewaves and submit it as evidence for this final part of your badge.
